As a parent, it can feel like you just need to keep on keeping on. But prioritising yourself is important, especially as you spend so much of your time prioritising others. Here are our tips for finding energy when you feel you’re running on empty.

  1. Get a wiggle on – this one is tricky. When you have no energy, it’s hard to think about moving. But just  10 mins can make you feel so much more alert. And it doesn’t have to be a lot. A quick walk, home workout or even active play with your kids all counts.
  2. Reach for the right foods – making smart food choices will stop your energy from dipping. Complex carbs are digested slowly and protein helps you stay fuller for longer, both of which help to stabilise your energy over the day. Reach for oats, sweet potatoes and lentils.
  3. Set some boundaries – whether with activities, chores or playdates, take a look at the areas in your life where you may be overcommiting. You’ll thank yourself for taking some time back in your schedule.
  4. Take time for you – hard to do, we know. Which is why it’s important to plan for ‘you time’. Even if it’s once a week. And even if it’s only for an hour. Where in your week can you enjoy uninterrupted personal space and time?
  5. Have a good snooze – sleep is essential to restore and repair our bodies and brains. It improves your mood too. A regular sleep pattern, regular exercise and steering clear of caffeine later in the day will help you get a good night’s sleep.

You’re doing great.
